Hook (2001-)

I attached fastenings on a curtain hanging in an exhibition room by sewing hooks on various heights across the curtain. Connecting the edges onto the hooks created new shapes and formations to the natural folds. My intervention is the art. The original folds of the curtain did not initially have my own ‘fine art’ value until my deliberate arrangement. The preexistent condition of the folds of the curtain obeyed the physical laws of gravity. My placement of the hooks is a means of subjecting my intervention to the same physical structure. Everything, including my intentional approach that interrupts the way a curtain is suspended or falls—an artificial interception, becomes part of nature.
